"The Runaway"

We've always been told “You can't run away from your problems”. That's true...they'll always be there and usually follow you wherever you go. However, a temporary running away is very good for the soul and body. For the purpose of spiritual renewal and physical cleansing, a trip to the mountains is highly recommended. I love how Jesus regularly slipped away alone, for this purpose. Disciples, looking around for Him, usually early in the morning, expecting Him to be frantically writing in His daily planner or conference calling the religious leaders, looking to “connect” or build a “team” for evangelism strategies and social gospel initiatives. He was not.

His regular runaways were always to connect with His Father only. To refocus and find motivation in His love and purpose. Creation joined Him in it's natural praise and spoke a silent Amen to their unified truth and plan. We need that too.

Personally, I lean toward building a more permanent dwelling in the middle of this sort of meeting place, but that is just my selfish desires speaking. That's where we rest and recharge, but the work to be done...the place where the problems are...will always be there and will always need us. That's true love...sacrificing our permanent retreating in order to help people.

I am incredibly thankful that God has planted me in a place where these runaways are accessible directly out my back door. I can runaway several times a day, if needed and always be home in time for the next crisis.

I know I write and paint quite frequently about this kind of thing, and I guess that just reflects my overwhelming love of it, but recent world events has increased the supply and demand for it significantly. Whether it's, hiking, canoeing horseback riding or any other form of outdoor activity, try to make it a priority to runaway a little.

You'll come home better...every time.

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35

Her backpack is large. When I runaway, I usually bring along firewood, book or Bible, snack and blanket. Picnic dates with Jesus.
